What you can explore in Morphanese
Use word segmentation as a starting point, then examine readings, dictionary meanings, and word-level information. These capabilities are supported by the implementation; their coverage depends on the dictionaries and recognized forms.
Japanese
Word segmentation; kana and four romanization options; katakana-to-hiragana display; dictionary senses and part-of-speech labels; recognized verb and adjective inflections linked to roots; supported compounds and suffixes; alternative parses; kanji and word lookup; romaji input suggestions.
Japanese word definitions come from JMdict and character information from KANJIDIC. Generated forms extend dictionary matches; they do not cover every possible grammatical construction.
Chinese
Mandarin word segmentation; Pinyin with tone marks, tone numbers, or no tones; dictionary meanings; alternative parses; simplified and traditional forms in dictionary entries; hanzi and word lookup; Pinyin input suggestions.
Chinese word definitions come from CC-CEDICT. Function-word entries can describe uses such as completed-action markers. Chinese cards do not provide the same part-of-speech or inflection labels as Japanese cards.
In both languages
A reading line connects to individual word cards. Hover highlights corresponding words; clicking a reading token reaches the card. Reading-only mode, light and dark themes, and public analysis are available without an account. Optional links let you investigate dictionary entries and related resources.
Where human context still matters
This is a dictionary-based analyzer, not a generative AI explanation engine or a full syntactic dependency parser. A likely segmentation can be wrong. Names, slang, rare forms, and words absent from the dictionaries can be unknown. Multiple senses and readings are often displayed rather than automatically resolved.
Pinyin reflects dictionary readings, not guaranteed context-sensitive pronunciation or tone-sandhi transcription. Word glosses do not automatically become a sentence translation. Long inputs are limited; start with a sentence for easier inspection. Optional matching catalog translations require sign-in.
